Nyung Ne Ritual
June 14 - June 16, 2008

Deer Park will host the Nyung Nay Avalokiteshvara fasting ritual led by Venerables Geshe Sopa, Gyume Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Tenzin, and Geshe Tenzin Dorje starting on
Saturday June 14 at 4:30 AM
to Monday morning June 16.

For those planning to attend, there is a prerequisite of having had either a Chenrezig empowerment OR a highest yoga tantra initiation. There will be a sign up for this in the new temple. Anyone intending to participate in this ritual should sign up in advance in the temple or call Drolma at (608) 835-6990 as we need a count for meals and texts. It would be helpful for those who have a copy of the text, to bring their own copies.

This practice, based on the Buddha of compassion, involves fasting and multiple daily sessions of prostration and recitation of his sadhana, praises, and mantra. This is an intensive spiritual practice to purify obscuration and negativities and accumulate merits.

This practice involves taking only one pre-noon vegetarian meal on Saturday provided by Deer Park and then fasting until Monday morning until breakfast provided by Deer Park. The schedule for Saturday and Sunday involves taking the 8 Mahayana precepts (24 hour vows) at 4:30 AM at Deer Park. Please plan to be in the new temple BEFORE 4:30 AM so that we can start promptly at 4:30 AM. Sunday is a day of silence with no foods or liquids to be taken. Participants should plan to attend the entire ritual. As we will be using the new temple which is uncarpeted, for prostrations, please bring some padding to place on the floor to protect your knees. Also, it's a good idea to bring 2 small towels (or some other protection) to protect your hands. Contributions are welcome.
